Dining Chair ReUpholstery Class

Re-upholstery is a simple DIY way to give old furniture a whole new feel. Funky Junk's Upholstery class combines upcycling and fabric by taking a worn out seat and making it feel great again. 

Teacher: Kristina Thelen

 Cost: $35-$50

Instruction, upholstery gun and staples, and batting is provided.

Bring your own chair or buy one from us for 10% off for this class.

Bring your own fabric or buy some from Funky Junk (5$ per chair for class participants).

Sew Green is also right around the corner on Cayuga Street, and they have an extensive shop full of fabric choices.

A note on fabric:  When choosing your fabric, keep in mind upholstery weight fabric is best- look for durability and strength.  Medium weight could work too.  Lightweight fabrics like calico cottons and quilting fabrics are not durable enough and will wear and tear within a year.  Also, think about how easily the fabric will clean- particularly if you have kids!

Paint Party

To give you a chance to get inspired, and try out CeCe Caldwell's 100% Natural Chalk and Clay Paints Funky Junk is throwing a Paint Party!  Funky Junk will provide a range of 20+ CeCe Caldwell's colors, one kind of CeCe Caldwell's finish, and help in mixing new vibrant shades.

You bring an item to paint, sized smaller than 24 x 24 x 24 - ie. lamp, side table, stool- or you can buy one at the store for this class for 10% off.

Cost- $25-$30 Sliding Scale

Dresser Day Workshop

Dresser Day is a five hour workshop designed to teach you the process of upcycling a whole dresser.  From prep to paint to finishing, David will guide you through the ins and outs of how to handle a large project, and how to do it well.

Using CeCe Caldwell's All Natural Paints and Finishes, learn how to Upcycle a whole dresser in this extended workshop.

Teacher: David West

Cost-  $80-$100 Sliding Scale

There will be a break for lunch- Bring your own or plan to stop by one of the Common’s eateries.

You can bring your own dresser or buy one at Funky Junk for 10% off!

If you have a dresser you plan to use fro the class, but need some help getting it to or from the Commons, Funky Junk will pick it up and drop it off for the class at half the cost of the regular delivery fee.  

Some older dressers may need repair work.  There are many repairs that David can make on a dresser, and a few he cannot.  Repair work will be an added fee.

Call ahead to check in with David to discuss possible repair work or arrange deliveries when you sign up for the class.

CeCe Caldwell's 101 Basics Class

In this two hour guided class, Kristina will give you the chance to experiment with 100% Natural, zero-VOC CeCe Caldwell's Chalk and Clay Paints.  Try out the different colors, learn about various waxes and finishes, and play with a range of styles, such as the ever popular distressed look. 

Learn the techniques and hone your skills with CeCe Caldwell’s paints and finishes and Funky Junk.

Cost: $75-$100 Sliding Scale

-Funky Junk and its Instructors reserve the right to cancel a class due to unforeseen circumstances, or lack of interest or attendance.
-There is a loading zone in back of the Funky Junk building to bring in larger furniture items.
-If you don’t have the item the class is upcycling, you can buy it that day at Funky Junk for 10% off.
